Artifact: Shared Vision
Reflection:This artifact, Shared Vision, was created in ITEC 7410 Instructional Technology Leadership. The article demonstrates my ability to develop and implement a shared vision for the use of technology in schools. The shared vision addresses a school wide vision that incorporates all stakeholders including, teachers, students, administrators, technology coaches/specialists, parents, and the community.
While creating this document I learned how to incorporate research in the form of staff surveys, district and state data along with information provided in my school’s strategic plan to create a school wide vision for technology. I was able to utilize research-based standards from International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) to guide the creation of my shared vision. Research along with class discussions and readings have taught me a lot about the value of using good data and community support to create a quality school wide vision.
This artifact began by first compiling school data, surveys, state and local information along with federal data, to create a comprehensive snapshot of the current level of instructional technology at my school. This information was evaluated and recommendations were made that included emerging technologies that would enhance teaching and learning.
This artifact has taught me a great deal about the challenges and struggles of technology leadership. I also learned a lot about the importance of utilizing all of the resource at your disposal and the need to include the entire community in the process. A true vision will only succeed if all of the stakeholders share in the process and are invested in its success. While completing this document I had difficulties assembling all of the information required. The next time I contribute to a shared vision, I will take more time to build a quality relationship with the entire staff. By working as team I will be better able to pull together key resources and possess a greater understanding of the vision and offer effective recommendations for improvement.
This artifact impacted the schools I serve by allowing me to work more closely with administration to enhance instructional technology. This experience enabled me to become more involved with the vision making process. I was able to make recommendations and help integrate technology into the upcoming school strategic plan. The impact of this artifact can be seen in an improved and more robust school strategic plan for technology that engages and inspires all stakeholders. The impact of this artifact can be assessed through the inclusion of instructional technology in the school vision and increase emphasis on instructional technology throughout the school.
