Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan
Reflection:
This artifact, Internet Lesson Plan, demonstrates my ability to effectively use digital tools and resources to support higher order thinking. This artifact was created as part of an assignment for ITEC 7430 Internet Tools in the Classroom. The artifact required me to analyze various digital tools and create a lesson that utilized those tools to engage students in higher order authentic learning experience.
For this artifact I had the opportunity to partner with a Spanish 2 teacher to create an internet lesson that required students to choose from a variety of digital tools to create a unique digital presentation that demonstrates their understanding of conversational Spanish. The lesson began by first evaluating several digital tools and then placing the links and information to those tools onto a OneNote notebook. The OneNote was created as an interactive digital notebook to host the assignment. The students used the OneNote to guide them as they analyzed and evaluated the various digital tools for use in the creation of their presentation. The students were tasked with creating a digital presentation that best illustrated their understanding of conversational Spanish. The lesson allowed students to evaluate various digital tools and choose one or a variety of tools, that best served their needs. The students engaged in higher order thinking as they chose their digital tool and worked collaboratively to create their conversation.
This artifact is a strong example of how students can use various digital tools to complete a higher order learning experience. Although the artifact utilized higher order thinking skills that required students to analyze, evaluate and create a presentation from a choice tools, some students felt overwhelmed. If I were to complete this project again I would offer students a lesson that would aide students in their choice of tools. Many students excelled at creative problem-solving and decision-making aspects of the lesson, however some were overwhelmed. Several students had difficulty with self-regulation and often found themselves lost. In order to address the needs of all learners, I would create another versions of the lesson that had custom tailored tools and tutorials that would better serve those students who had difficulty with wealth of choices.
This lesson has greatly impacted my knowledge of digital tools and higher-order thinking skills. This lesson has enhanced my own teaching by presenting me with the skills to incorporate multiple digital tools into a single lesson. I have also shared my new skills with the staff at my school by presenting the new digital tools to the staff. The impact of this experience can be measured in teacher observations and utilization of technology resources available to staff such as, increased usage of labs.
