Artifact: Data Overview Presentation
Reflection:The Data Overview artifact, was created as an assignment for ITEC Data Analysis and School Improvement. This artifact was chosen because it best demonstrates my understanding of PSC standard 2.8 and my ability to effectively use digital tools and resources to systematically collect, analyze and interpret student achievement data. This assignment required me to collect assessment data from various location and create a presentation that addressed assessment and demographic information. Along with collecting data, the overview also included data trends and recommendations based on quality data analysis.
The assignment began by first collecting student performance data from various locations including the State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS). The data collected was then then analyzed, filter and sorted using digital tools such as, Microsoft Excel. Once the information was properly filtered and sorted, graphs and tables were then created for data presentation. The information was then placed into a PowerPoint presentation and recorded using video tools such as screencasting and video editing software, Camtasia, to create a powerful data presentation. Along with presenting the data for review, recommendations for appropriate interventions were also made to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
This artifact was very comprehensive and does an excellent job at displaying the data, along with appropriate interventions. If I were to create this presentation again, I would have including more comprehensive explanation of the information. The data was properly collected and displayed, but the explanation along with the recommendations were not as clearly communicated. A presentation that was more concise and direct would have offered more value to the target audience.
This artifact has taught me a lot about effectively use digital tools and resources to systematically collect, analyze and interpret student achievement data. The knowledge and skills gained form this artifact have improved my understanding of data and its use enhance teaching and learning. After completing this assignment I shared my understanding of data and data analysis with the staff at my school through professional development. The impact of this artifact can be seen the increased usage of data analysis tools such as the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS) and other forms of data analysis to drive teaching and learning. Along with data analysis tools, the impact of this artifact can also be measured in more targeted instruction and an increase on formative and summative data.
