Reflection: The artifact "Twitter" demonstrates my ability to use digital communications to collaborate locally and globally with students, parents, peers and the larger community. My blog was created before attending Kennesaw State University and enrolling in the Educational Technology Specialist (EDS) program as part of the Instructional Technology Department. My EDS program has enabled me to see my Twitter account as more than just away to communicate my own personal life. After beginning the program, I began to see how Twitter could be used to create professional leaning communities.
This artifact displays mastery of standard 3.7 Communication and Collaboration by illustrating how I have used Twitter to extend my professional reach beyond the classroom. By utilizing Twitter as a digital collaborative communication platform, I have been able to make professional learning communities that allow me to enhance my professional practice. Twitter has enabled me to make connections with important institutions such as Edutopia, ISTE and Ed Tech Magazine. Along with reaching out to educational associations I also have been able to follow my peers throughout the county. Twitter has allowed me to actively participate in several "Twitter Chats", which allow me to collaborate with my peers and sharing best practices.
This artifact has taught me a lot about digital communications and collaboration. Twitter offers a great deal of potential to enhance teaching and learning. I learned that Twitter can be used to enhance professional development and create positive professional communities. I am always constantly trying to enhance my knowledge and leverage Twitter to enhance my own professional practices. As I utilize this Web 2.0 in the future, I plan to get more involved with the professional learning communities that exist on the platform. I also plan to become more actively involved in chats and create more followers. Along with communities and chats, I will also use the awesome communication power of Twitter to promote all of the positive things that are going at my school with parents, students and the larger community.
The work I have done on Twitter has greatly impacted student learning and professional development. The knowledge that I gain on Twitter, goes directly into my professional practice and is often retweeted throughout my professional community. Along with retweeting, the professional development that I experience goes directly into my professional development training sessions as well. The impact of this artifact can be seen in the quality of lessons created and increased communication with all school stakeholders.
