Artifact: Teacher Needs Assessment
Reflection: This artifact "Individual Technology Needs Assessment" was created for ITEC Professional Learning and Technology Innovation. The artifact was created to assess the needs of a teacher that I am currently coaching. The teacher I am coaching completed two questionnaires that was used to assess her LoTi level and adopter level. The questionnaire was then followed up by an interview with the teacher to discuss the results and create a coaching plan.
This artifact displays my ability to conduct a needs assessment to determine school-wide, faculty, and subject area strengths and weaknesses by developing, distributing and questionnaire, conducted an interview and determined a professional technology coaching strategy. The interview was conducted in a way to put to ease the concerns of the mentee. During the interview we evaluated, discussed and agreed upon the best delivery of digital technology tools that would best address the teacher's content area.
After completing this artifact, I learned about the importance of conducting needs assessments to determine school-wide, faculty, grade-level, and subject area strengths and weaknesses to inform content and delivery of technology based learning programs. If I were to complete this artifact again I would have paid better attention to the different styles of coaching. Although the experience was a success, I could have done more to offer a better coaching experience. Next time I will dedicate more time and energy to the teacher I am coaching. I plan to offer opportunities to model proper delivery of instructional material by teaching the technology content in the classroom with the students.
This artifact has greatly impacted faculty development and school improvement. The knowledge and experience gained form completing this artifact has gone directly into my professional development and improved faculty development for teachers and administrators. The impact of this artifact can be assessed in improved professional developments; improved lesson plans and improved EOC and SLO assessment scores.
