Standard 2.6 Instructional Design
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of research-based best practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 2.6/ISTE 2f)
Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan
Reflection:This artifact, Internet Lesson Plan, was created for ITEC 7430 Internet Tools in the Classroom and demonstrated my ability to facilitate to effectively use of research-based best practices in instruction when designing and developing digital tools, resources and technology enhanced learning experiences.
The lesson was created for a high school Spanish 2 class and utilized various technology tools and resources. The lesson was created using the Spanish 2 PSC standards and the ISTE standards. This lesson allowed for students to various technology tools to complete a project on Spanish dialogue. The lesson was designed using research-based best practices by creating roles for the student, creating an authentic real-world learning experience for the students. The students were given a wide range of digital tools to carry out the lesson. Along with a wide range of technology tools within the lesson the students were also given PDF tutorials, videos and websites as resources to guide them through the project.
After completing this project I learned that technology can be used in conjunction with research-based best practices to truly enhance teaching and learning. If I were to create this lesson again, I would have done more to differentiate the lesson for the various skills levels in the classroom. Although the lesson did offer the students a variety of technology tools to choose from, some students felt overwhelmed at the selection. Some students had difficulty choosing from the different tools available to them and ran out of time. Next time I will make it a point to create different preselected tools that would help accommodate those students that found the wide variety choices confusing and daunting.
This lesson has had a great impact on both my school and myself. After completing this lesson, I shared my new knowledge of research-based practices and digital tools with the rest of the staff. The impact that completing this lesson has had on the school and my own teaching can be assessed in teacher walk throughs and the quality of teacher submitted lessons plans.
