Artifact: Data Inventory
Reflection: The Data Inventory artifact displays my ability to effectively use diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to measure students learning and technology literacy, including the use of digital assessment tools and resources. The Data Inventory artifact was an assignment to analyze school wide data for ITEC 7305 Data Analysis and School Improvement.
The Data Inventory utilized both summative and formative data from a variety of resources throughout the school such as EOC, Benchmark, SAT and SLO assessments. Along with collecting information on student learning and technology literacy, recommendations were also made on how to better utilize the data resources and technology tools currently utilized by the school. Recommendations made within the data inventory include, the use of digital resources, to better server students such as differentiation.
This artifact was a comprehensive analysis of formative and summative data analysis. Although the artifact did include many tools, the recommendations for future enhancements were not as in-depth as should have been. If I were complete this project again, I would focus more on how specific digital assessment tools could be better utilized. Throughout the Data Inventory I noticed redundancies within the usage of digital tools and assessments. The information collected from both formative and summative assessments taken using digital tools could be utilized in multiple areas.
This artifact has greatly improved my teaching and learning, by making me more aware of the proper usage of both formative and summative assessment data. The knowledge gained from this artifact has changed the way I view data and its use in schools. I now see how properly used assessment data can be used to enhance student learning. The impact of this lesson can be seen in both formative and summative student assessments such as Flexible Formative Assessments (FFAS), End of Course Testing and teacher given formative assessments.
