Artifact: Multimedia Design Project
Reflection:The Multimedia Design Project, consists of a WebQuest created to demonstrate my ability to create a lesson that is grounded in research-based learner strategies and also addressing the needs of diverse learners. The artifact was designed to address the different economies and governments of select nations within the Middle East. This lesson was created for use in the social studies classroom and addresses many of the PSC content standards, along with the ISTE NET-T and S standards.
This artifact utilized research-based learner strategies by using online digital tools, to engage students in real-world authentic learning experiences. In this lesson students were assigned the role of investors assigned to research investment opportunities in the Middle East. The lesson was created to address the needs of diverse learners. The lesson incorporated voice narration as an assisted learning device, along with detailed tutorials on additional Microsoft assistive technology tools, to help assist the needs of diverse learners. Lesson also incorporated a contact link to ask for additional help from the teacher.
This artifact best demonstrates my ability to create to create a research-based learner centered experience that best addresses the needs of diverse learners. If I were to execute this lesson again, I would have created a greater opportunity for collaborative work. Although the lesson did address collaboration, better integration and explanation of the collaborative power of web 2.o tools, really would have increased the authentic nature of this leaner-centered activity.
The work that went into this artifact really helped me grow in my understanding of what is required to utilize research-based learner centered strategies that address the needs of diverse learners. After completing this lesson I brought my knowledge back to my school, which I shared not only in the classroom but also to the rest of the staff. The impact of this artifact can be seen in the quality of lesson plans and staff development plans created and submitted to administration. Along with lesson plans the impact of this artifact can also be seen throughout the school in teacher walkthrough evaluations by administration and in TKES assessments.
