Artifact: ELL Report Template
Reflection: This artifact, English Learning Lesson (ELL) Report, demonstrates my ability to model and facility the design implementation of technology-enhanced learning experience that made appropriate use of differentiation. For this lesson I had the opportunity to work with an English Language Learner (ELL) class and utilize digital technology tools to enhance the learning experiences of ELL students. The lesson gave me the opportunity to work with students from with various backgrounds and levels of English proficiency. I was able to work with both a large and small groups of students to help them with reading comprehension and social interaction in English.
This artifact includes the different steps taken to utilize technology-enhanced learning experiences help differentiate instruction for ESOL students. I was able to use tools such as Kahoot to involve students in fun and engaging assessments. Using the Kahoot assessment I was able to pull out students and work with them in small groups and further utilize additional technology-enhanced learning experience. Working with the students I was also able to adjust their learning experience based on process and content. I used additional tools such as Google Translate to help them understand English language and create quality conversational sentences.
After completing this experience I learned how technology-enhanced lessons can be used to reach a diverse population. Technology tools can be used to help differentiate lessons and better serve specific student needs. I also learned that technology tools along with serving the specific needs of students can also be fun and engaging.
If I were to do this lesson again I would have further enhanced the tools used with the group. I was amazed at how capable the group of ESOL students were with technology. In retrospect I amazed at how technology and the enthusiasm to use technology was able to bridge the language barrier that existed. I initially thought that a differentiated Technology-enhanced lesson would have been difficult to use with non-English speaking students. I was wrong, the use of technology tools helped to engage the students and empower them in a way that I have not seen before. The use of technology in the classroom helped with differentiation by targeting students, engaging students by altering the content and process to help bridge the language barrier.
This artifact allowed me to use technology-enhanced lesson to increase student motivation and work with students at various level and proficiency. The impact of this lesson can be see in the students’ pre and post test scores along with students’ engagement as seen in walk-through and student evaluation surveys.
