Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan Presentation
Reflection: The Internet Lesson Plan Presentation accurately displays my ability to manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. The presentation artifact was created for ITEC 7430, Internet Tools in the Classroom and was developed in cooperation with a Spanish 2 teacher. The artifact video demonstrates my utilization of a variety of digital tools to help students demonstrate their ability with conversation English. The lesson was designed to be a student centered learning experience for Spanish students.
This artifact displays mastery of standard 3.2 by utilizing multiple technology tools to enhance student learning. The presentation illustrates the use of a Microsoft OneNote Notebook to teach conversational Spanish. The OneNote consists of a detailed lesson including descriptions, rubric, tutorials, assisted learning tools and assessment tools to address the requirements of ISTE and PLC Spanish standards. The OneNote is an example of how multiple technology tools can be used to create an authentic learning experience for students. The presentation contains links and tutorials on digital technology Web 2.0 tools such as; Vocaroo, Photostory, Powtoons and Prezi. The use of these tools combined with Microsoft Forms and Survey create an excellent example of the use of multiple digital tools to create a student centered learning experience.
After completing this artifact I learned the lesson of properly evaluating digital tools. The artifact is an excellent example of my ability to manage and display digital tools and resources, however the tools do require better evaluation. If I were to perform this lesson again, I would have spent more time collaborating with the Spanish teacher to find tools that better matched the needs of the students. I learned that offering tools is not enough to create a quality student centered learning experience. The tools need to properly evaluated and tested before using them in the classroom.
The work that went into this artifact has greatly benefited my own professional practice along with the faculty. After completing this lesson I was able to better evaluate technology tools for use in creating student-centered learning experiences. I had the opportunity to perform staff development about the use of digital tools for student-centered instruction. The benefit of this artifact can be evaluated in the quality of technology infused lesson plans, increased student motivation and walk-through evaluation.
