This class explored the issues that exist within technology leadership today. The class took a close look at how schools utilize technology and their motivations. The class taught me how to create a shared vision for the school. Each school must create a shared vision that is unique to the needs of their culture. I also learned that a vision alone is not enough to enact true change. I learned how to create a SWOT analysis to look the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist when implementing the vision. Along with the SWOT schools must create and action evaluation, to determine how to move forward and use technology to address the SWOT.
Before this class I never considered the amount of planning associated with technology leadership. Before ITEC 7410, I would have just assumed that technology leadership was just making a purchase orders for new stuff. This class has opened my eyes to planning associated with technology leadership. A good leader does not just arbitrarily make decisions that impact the school. I learned that a good leader creates consensus and involves all stakeholders into the process. A leader must create visions that include everyone addresses the needs of all learners. Technology leadership also includes tackling the issues of today's schools such as, digital equity and the digital divide. Only when everyone is involved will true instructional technology transformation take place.
As the next school year begins I plan to work with my schools to help implement true 21st century technology change. I plan to work with administration and the county to help bring about a shared vision for instructional technology.
