This class has really taught me a lot about the power of pedagogy combined with Web 2.0 Tools to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. Throughout this semester I learned about the power of awesome Web 2.0 Tools such as Padlet, Wordle, Lino and Keynote. These tools are just a small sample of some of the great educational tools that can be utilized to enhance digital age learning in the classroom. These educational tools offer more than just another way for students to complete assignments. These tools allow students to have authentic learning experiences that are truly collaborative and engaging.
I also learned through research and blog postings, that simply educating a class using Web 2.0 tools is not enough. It is also important for a digital age educator, to also be responsible for the safety, security and wellbeing of their students. Digital citizenship is more than a nice idea or extra filler lesson, it is a necessity for the digital classroom. Resources such as Commonsense Media, Netsmartz and the school usage guide are a great place to start educating students and teachers alike about the importance digital citizenship.
The information gained from this class has been invaluable to me as an educator. The skills that I have obtained have had a direct impact on my approach to teaching and learning in the classroom. I have also made it appoint to share my new skills outside of the classroom as well, by conducting professional development. Sharing my passion of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom with other educators, has been a rewarding experience. After completing this class I feel much more confident in my ability to educate and equip the next generation of digital age learners.
